To get more specific search results, try using the following tips:
Always check spelling
Using plus
+ or minus -
Using quotation marks
Using select multiple words
Check spelling
Do try to verify your search terms are spelled correctly. If you fail
to get results try to vary your letter combinations as slang often
uses less obvious and unusual forms of spelling.
Using plus + or minus -
Use a plus + sign when the term or phrase you are searching for must
appear in the search results. Use a minus - sign to indicate undesirable
expressions. The plus sign tells the search engine that a certain
word or phrase is required in the search results, and a minus sign
indicates that a word or phrase must be absent in the search results.
Note: A phrase should be contained within quotation marks. Leave no
spaces between the plus or minus sign and the term.
Using quotation marks
Use quotation marks to find words which must appear adjacent to each
other, for example, "shit hits the fan".
Otherwise, the search results will include the words shit,
hits, the, and fan,
but not necessarily in that order and these words may appear anywhere
within the document.
Using select multiple words
If you are looking for a particular phrase try to use multiple words
when performing your search, and only use the nouns, verbs or adjectives
of the expression. For example, typing the full monty
will yield too many irrelevant results (unless you utilize quotation
marks); all the pages that include the word the
will also be presented in the results. In this case you are best typing
only monty as other expressions including
the word full, such as "full
of shit", will display in the results. (Always
keep in mind, relevant results are returned even if they don't contain
all query terms.)
